Workshop #1 (1 hour)
Energize & Expand: Adapting Backbends in Accessible Yoga
with Jivana Heyman
REPLAY NOW AVAILABLE
Recorded live January 30, 2025
Asana practice can be energizing and strengthening, offering us the endurance we need to face the world. Backward bends, in particular, offer that energizing and expansive aspect of practice. Backbends can help us expand our hearts and prepare us to stay open to whatever life brings. And in our tech-focused world, backbends offer a reprieve and potentially therapeutic benefits from the time we spend slouching over our devices.
In this 60-minute FREE workshop, Accessible Yoga founder Jivana Heyman will explore:
- How to make backbending more accessible for all bodies within an adapted mat practice and chair practice.
- The benefits of backward bending
- Contraindications of backward bending
He will also offer a short energizing practice with a focus on adapted backbends.
Jivana will end with a short info session about the upcoming Accessible Yoga Training Online that begins March 6th, 2025.
Workshop #2 (1 hour)

- Planning an Accessible Yoga class
- The foundations of designing creative Accessible Yoga sequences
- Sample frameworks for integrated mat and chair classes, chair yoga, and bed yoga classes
- Finding balance between structure and spontaneity in our teaching
Jivana will end with a short info session about the upcoming Accessible Yoga Training Online that begins March 6th, 2025.
